Stainsby Mill is a water
powered
corn
mill,
which dates from the
13th Century when it
provided
flour for
local
villages & later for the
Hardwick estate.
It was substantially
restored in
1850 by the
6th
Duke of Devonshire
& produced flour until
1952. The mill
is still in
good working order.
The 17ft high enclosed
water
wheel is
turned by
water from the mill pond, powering the grinding
& lifting work.
